Rabbit Hole Staff Picks For September 2021

Starting a new feature this month, where I ask everyone who does a podcast here at Rabbit Hole Podcasts for a movie recommendation each month. They’ll also give me a short blurb about said movie and I’ll add a trailer to it. Then you, the reader of this site at home, have some recommendations from a trusted source!! Here are this month’s picks!

Jason Soto (Host Whatever with Jason Soto, Co-Host Between The Scares, Top 5 A Thru Z, & CineGamer):

The Caller

“Sort of a time travel movie, Mary starts getting a call from a lonely woman named Rose. Mary then discovers that Rose is calling from the past and that Rose is a bit of a looney and starts messing with Mary’s present by continually altering the past. There is so much tension as you watch Mary helplessly deal with this crazy lady from the past and she can’t do anything about it. This is a very fucked up movie but so good!”

Lisa Leaheey (Co-host Between The Scares & The SibList):

The Blackcoat’s Daughter

The Blackcoat’s Daughter is another home run from A24. It’s about two girls who are left on their own overnight in their boarding school just before winter break. The older girl is charged with looking after the other, but shirks her duty in order to go out with her boyfriend. As a result, the younger girl is left vulnerable to a dark entity.

Bill “SzanyMan” Szany (Co-host Top Five A Thru Z):

The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland

Elmo learns the hard way to be a better monster when it comes to sharing. After he rips his favorite blanket out of the hand’s of one of his best friends it gets blown away, lands in Oscar’s house, then gets sucked into the grossest place on Earth. Now he must put everything at risk for his favorite earthly possession.

Pete Rangel, Jr (Co-host Top Five A Thru Z):

A Quiet Place 2

In a brilliantly done sequel we get a straight forward continuation of the Abbott family’s fight against blind alien creatures and what makes it even better is the first few minutes before the story continues we get the actual sort of prequel interlude on why the Abbott family was running away from these creatures in the first and we get to see how they arrived to Earth. The main things I love too on this movie are it’s a straight forward continuation as I mentioned earlier and I have loved horror sequels like this that actually continue the story correctly and not jump into a whole new story with no tie-in to the last, I love actually seeing the aliens up front more than the first, and the suspense is perfect for a movie like this. Can’t wait to see the 3rd coming in I think 2023 I read.

Rob Branch (Co-host CineGamer):

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension

This Adventure came to be in 1984 with an amazing cast of Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd. This B-movie gem has music, corny movie lines and over the top acting that makes science cool, monsters weird and all over all sense of “I have to watch that again” to the viewer.
